KHASET CRUISES Dahabeya Boats

Sail the Nile as explorers once did…

A dahabeya is a traditional Egyptian sailing boat, inspired by the private vessels once used by royalty and 19th-century explorers. Traveling aboard a dahabeya offers an intimate way to experience the Nile, where time slows and the river sets the rhythm of the journey.
Sailing between Luxor and Aswan, our two-masted dahabeyas travel at the natural rhythm of the Nile. Their size enables anchoring near villages, islands, and archaeological sites, leaving time for walking, quiet observation, and cultural encounters along the way.
Our dahabeyas are designed for comfort and tranquillity, featuring six to eight cabins, each with a private en-suite bathroom. Blending traditional design with practical comfort, our boats offer personalized service and an authentic Egyptian culinary experience. Meals are freshly prepared daily by our onboard chef using local ingredients. Guests enjoy authentic cuisine in a calm setting while sailing quietly through Egypt’s most iconic landscapes.

History of Egypt, the Nile & the Dahabeya

For thousands of years, the Nile has been Egypt’s main route of travel, communication, and life. Ancient Egyptians viewed the river as a living force. It shaped their calendar, agriculture, and belief system, with temples, cities, and tombs aligned along its banks.
Long before roads crossed the desert, the river connected Upper Egypt to the Mediterranean, carrying people, ideas, and goods along its waters.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, scholars, archaeologists, and travelers journeyed south by sail between Luxor and Aswan. The dahabeya emerged during this period as a private sailing boat, used by royalty, diplomats, and explorers seeking comfort, privacy, and flexibility.
Unlike modern cruise ships, dahabeyas were never designed for speed or mass travel. Their shallow draft allowed access to riverbanks and islands, creating direct contact with villages and archaeological sites.
Today, traveling by dahabeya offers a way to experience Egypt by sailing the Nile as explorers once did, guided by the river and the surrounding landscape.
